DC to Re-Print Some Classic Comics
June 19 --- Recently in the alt.animation.warner-bros newsgroup Mark Evanier has informed everyone that DC Comics is about to release a collection of comics which will reprint a number of classic comic book stories, including several from LOONEY TUNES AND MERRIE MELODIES #1 (from the 1940s)!

From around 1940 to 1975, Western Publishing Company produced hundreds of comic books featuring Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig and the gang. These were published under the Dell and later the Gold Key imprints. A large percentage of these stories were written and drawn by folks moonlighting from the Warner Brothers cartoon studio, including Tom McKimson, Phil DeLara, Michael Maltese, Tedd Pierce and John Carey.

These rarely seen comics are a must-see for Looney Tunes fans, they really capture the spirit and art of the classic cartoons, unlike the lame comics currently being printed by DC.

Film Festival!!
As part of the celebration of Warner Bros' 75th Anniversary, the studio has assembled some of its most beloved classic cartoons, featuring Bugs Bunny and the other Looney Tunes characters, for theatrical presentation in more than 80 cities across North America. The Bugs Bunny Film Festival, which officially kicks off its tour Feb. 13 in Edmonton, Canada, will arrive in the United States with week-long showings beginning this spring.

Bugs' Festival, which is composed of two separate programs of 15 cartoons each, will play week-long engagements in each venue. The two program series, entitled "Best of the Fest" and "Taz Gone Looney," will play on alternate calendar days during the week's run. Each program will feature the timeless art and humor of such animators as Tex Avery, Bob Clampett, Friz Freleng, Chuck Jones and Robert McKimson, with some cartoons dating from as early as 1940. In addition, the ``Best of the Fest'' program features the premiere of a new animated short from the legendary Chuck Jones, ``Another Froggy Evening,'' starring Michigan J. Frog and Marvin the Martian.

The Festival offerings feature the gamut of Warner Bros.' popular animated stars, including Elmer Fudd, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Sylvester and Tweety, Foghorn Leghorn, Marvin the Martian, Pepe le Pew, Yosemite Sam, the Tasmanian Devil, Michigan J. Frog, Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner -- as well as the undisputed star of both program series, Bugs Bunny. Renowned animated shorts in the festival include "A Wild Hare" (Bugs' official first film), "What's Opera, Doc?" (rated the No. 1 animation cartoon by 1,000 animation professionals), the Academy Award-winning "Knighty Knight Bugs" (starring Bugs and Yosemite Sam), "Rabbits Kin" (the only appearance by Pete Puma with Bugs), the Academy Award-winning "For Scent-imental Reasons" (featuring Pepe le Pew and his exhausted amour, Fifi) and "Devil May Hare" (the Tasmanian Devil's cartoon debut).

In conjunction with The Bugs Bunny Film Festival, Warner Bros' Studio Stores will offer special commemorative articles and animation cels featuring these world-famous icons. More information on local dates and times of The Bugs Bunny Film Festival will be made available regionally in the coming weeks.
