Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. (TBS, Inc.) will launch a new, 24-hour animation network featuring the classic cartoons and stars of the Hanna-Barbera library, it was announced today by Betty Cohen, president of Cartoon Network Worldwide, who will oversee the new network.
BOOMERANG will target adults 30+, as well as young children, and will feature classic Hanna-Barbera characters including Yogi Bear, Huckleberry Hound, Quick Draw McGraw and Top Cat, as created by the legendary animation team of Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera. Turner Broadcasting's newest entertainment service, which will be available nationwide, will debut on April 1, 2000, bringing to 20 the number of networks in the Turner portfolio.
"Cartoon Network's phenomenal audience growth with older kids and young adults is increasingly driven by our aggressive ramp-up of original programming and contemporary acquisitions," said Cohen. "Our research and consumer feedback tells us that we still have enormous opportunity to serve baby boomer parents with more of the classic favorites they grew up with.
